Fahda is the managing partner and founder of the firm, Fahda Nur & Yusmadi in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, where she specializes in civil (general, corporate and commercial) litigation and Syariah. She received her LL.B. from the International Islamic University Malaysia (2000) and later pursued her LL.M. at the University College London, United Kingdom (2003-2004). Fahda was called to the Malaysian Bar as an Advocate & Solicitor in 2001.
FahdaÊs strong academic performance in law school earned her the Best Student Award, PresidentÊs Award for achievements at the International level and the Overall Best Student Award from the International Islamic University. In 2003, Fahda was awarded the prestigious British Chevening Scholarship to pursue her LL.M. at the University College London in UK. Upon graduation, she was awarded the coveted Sir Jack Jacob QC Prize for her Distinction in Civil Litigation.
Fahda is also a well-known varsity debater whose accolades of achievements include clinching the Best Speaker Award in AsiaÊs Intervarsity Debates in 1998 and was thrice a champion as Malaysian representative, and swept best speaker titles for English Parliamentary debates at the National level. FahdaÊs wide range of activities and achievements earned her the National Youth Award 1999 and she was subsequently selected to be a recipient of the Commonwealth Youth Award in 1999.
Fahda was also the Malaysian representative of the highly prestigious Phillip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition in Washington, U.S., the worldÊs biggest mooting competition organized by the American Law Students Association and the American Society of International Law in the year 2000 in which she won all rounds.
Formerly attached to the think-tank Institut Kajian Dasar as its Deputy Director (2005- 2006), Fahda is till today a Fellow to the institute, being involved in leadership training programmes with several international organizations such as the Sasakawa Peace Foundation in Japan and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in German. She also helms a womenÊs based organization, WIRDA (WomenÊs Institute of Research Development and Advancement) and is a regular speaker for womenÊs issues. Fahda has also been recently requested to advise parliamentarians on womenÊs issues by the Malaysian Women ParliamentariansÊ Caucus. A regular speaker on womenÊs rights and issues, Fahda has often been invited to appear on television and deliver lectures in various forums, workshops for women in both the urban and rural areas throughout Malaysia.
